Environmental & Social Governance

The AREF ESG Committee’s objective is to advise and represent, where necessary, AREF and its members on environmental and social issues relating to member funds’ engagement with all non-investment stakeholders including government and other official bodies.

Given the current topicality, the Committee’s main focus is on the environmental aspect of this agenda. Practically, given the growing size and importance of the environmental agenda versus AREF’s limited resources, the Committee presently focuses on reporting and guiding on legislation and best practice, and supporting associated organisations, such as Green Building Council and Better Buildings Partnership, in their efforts to lobby or promote best practice. The Committee caveats that legislation is presently complex, not adequately integrated and of variable worth. Similarly, best practice remains highly subjective.

The AREF ESG Committee is always interested in hearing from members; if you have any ESG matter you would like the Committee to consider please contact AREF at
