Abigail Dean

Global Head of Strategic Insights, Nuveen Real Estate

Abigail Dean is the Global Head of Strategic Insights for Nuveen Real Estate. She is responsible for the organisation’s global research, sustainability and proptech and innovation functions. She oversees Nuveen Real Estate’s Tomorrow’s World Strategy which future proofs the investment strategy in light of global megatrends and integrates ESG across fund and asset management. This strategy ensures that the business delivers on its mission to invest in the urban fabric of Tomorrow’s World for the enduring benefit of our clients and society. Working alongside our Product Development team, Abigail is also responsible for ensuring that new product and the growth of the business are under pinned by solid research and sustainability considerations overseeing the global research team.

Since joining the firm in 2016, Abigail has overseen the organization setting a target to achieve Net Zero Carbon by 2040. Abigail is a member of Nuveen Real Estate’s Investment Committee and has spearheaded the integration of sustainability considerations into the acquisition process. She is also leading the organisation to develop investment guidelines related to physical and transition climate change risk.

She previously worked at JLL, where she led on sustainability for the Property and Asset Management's U.K. team.


John Forbes

Independent Consultant, John Forbes Consulting

John Forbes is an independent consultant advising real estate investment managers, investors and others in the real estate industry in the rapidly changing areas of product development, governance and regulatory matters for real estate funds.  He has advised on the restructuring of high profile open and closed-ended real estate funds in the UK and elsewhere in Europe, as well as the establishment of new funds. He has advised service providers to the real estate investment management industry on the strategic implications of regulatory and other changes.  Prior to setting up John Forbes Consulting LLP in 2013, he spent over twenty-five years with PwC, where he led the firm's Real Estate Industry Practice in Europe, the Middle-East and Africa across all of the firm's services to the real estate industry.

John is the chairman of the Independent Supervisory Board of the UBS Triton Property Fund, independent chair of the Urban Splash Residential Fund and non executive chairman of Ginkgo Advisor UK Limited.

Melville Rodrigues

Head – Real Estate Advisory, Apex Group

Melville's practice focuses on the launch and operation of funds, including funds which hold underlying real estate investments in the UK as well as internationally. The funds have attracted institutional, private and retail investors.

In addition to servicing clients, he has been involved in representing industry bodies in their dialogue with the Treasury and the FCA. He is a regular contributor to the real estate press.

Julie Townsend

Senior Director, Environmental Consultant, CBRE

Julie has over 20 years-experience within the environmental sector, the last 13 of which have been spent working in commercial real estate.  As Head of Environmental Consultancy for CBRE UK Advisory, Julie is responsible for leading all aspects of environmental sustainability advisory services and across all aspects of the property life-cycle, tackling key issues such as legacy contamination, climate change mitigation and adaption and wellbeing.  Julie is also responsible for building capacity around Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) issues across the service lines/geographies of the UK business and is executive sponsor for the implementation of an ESG strategy into CBRE UK & Ireland Advisory.  She is a board member at CBRE, an active member of the UK Green Building Council (UK GBC) Members Advisory Group as well as an Associate within the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA).
