The conversation around ESG in real estate has grown fast and, in many cases, become more complex than helpful. In July, we brought together senior ESG professionals from across the industry to explore how ESG can be refocused as a practical driver of long-term value, rather than a label or marketing term.
Our new white paper, shaped by insights from the 18 organisations present, sets out a straightforward aim: move beyond rhetoric and return to fundamentals. ESG should support better decision-making, stronger portfolios, and resilient places. It should help investors manage risk, protect value, and identify opportunities that deliver real-world benefit over the long term.
The paper acknowledges the significant progress made across the sector, but also reflects a shared view that rapid expansion, varied definitions, and increasing scrutiny mean this is a pivotal moment. Clear purpose, credible delivery, and alignment between financial performance and sustainability outcomes are now essential.
This is not about changing terminology. It is about sharpening focus, improving transparency, and ensuring ESG remains a tool for practical action and long-term value creation.
