This session will discuss the different types of fund structures, and the tax implications when choosing a structure, including English Limited Partnerships, Luxembourg Funds, Jersey Unit Trusts, PAIFs and more.

Christopher Austin

Head of Tax, Private Assets, Schroders

Christopher is an experienced tax advisor with over 20 years experience in the investment management industry.  He has been at Schroders since April 2006 and has expertise in a wide range of international taxes. Before Schroders he was at Deloitte for 8 years where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Adviser, working in the banking, investment management, and real estate sectors as well as a period working on tax policy.

Christopher’s current focus is supporting the growth of the Private Assets business within Schroders through close working with the investment and product teams to meet investors' objectives and manage tax risks effectively, and providing tax due diligence and transaction support on acquisitions, both for the Schroders group and on behalf of investors.

Matthew Brehaut

Partner, Carey Olsen

Matt is a Partner in the corporate team in Carey Olsen’s London office.

He advises on corporate and investment funds matters, with particular experience in the structuring and launch of investment funds.

Matt provides funds, fund service providers and fund promoters with advice on all aspects of the establishment, regulation and operation of investment funds.

Samuel Campbell

Associate Director in Real Estate Tax , Deloitte

Sam specialises in complex real estate transactions for major real estate companies and funds. He has a particular focus on UK REITs and advises a large portfolio of UK REITs on tax matters.

Jonny Greengrass

Associate Director in Real Estate Tax , Deloitte

Jonny advises real estate private equity funds and institutional fund managers on tax matters across the property lifecycle, from acquisition due diligence and structuring to support in exit processes. He primarily focusses on UK inbound investment but has also advised on a number of large pan-European transactions.

Clare Grimes

Investment Associate, Octopus Real Estate

Clare joined Octopus Real Estate in 2017. She specialises in transaction execution of commercial property lending transactions across the short-term and investment finance space.

Clare graduated in 2016 from Loughborough University with a BSc in Sociology and then graduated in 2021 from Henley Business School with a MSc in Real Estate Investment & Finance. She also holds a Diploma in Property Investment from the Investment Property Forum. She is currently working towards the MRICS qualification.
