Seminar and networking: Resolving Covid-19 commercial rent debts

Karen is a fund manager in the property team and co-manages the Kames Property Income Fund.

She joined Kames Capital in 2016 following a career break, prior to which she was a fund manager at Aviva Investors responsible for three specialist property funds over her 8 years at Aviva. Prior to that, she worked at CBRE for 8 years in the national investment team.

Karen has a BSc Hons from Reading University and has 18 years’ industry experience. She is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors

Andrew is a senior counsel in the Real Estate Department and leads the Property Disputes team. He has been described in The Legal 500 as 'calm, knowledgeable and professional'.

He has enormous experience of property disputes ranging from arguments about interference with rights of light at central London developments to shooting and fishing rights on country estates. He acts for property funds, landlords, tenants, developers, professional sports clubs and many other clients. He recently led his team in a dispute concerning rights of light at Chelsea Football Club's stadium at Stamford Bridge. He has also acted in recent disputes arising from CVAs and restructuring involving Laura Ashley, Carpetright, Yo! Sushi, Virgin Active and others.   

Tiffany is an experienced advocate specialising in commercial litigation, trusts and estates disputes, real estate litigation and professional liability claims. She has broad experience in ‘business’ litigation of all kinds, often with an international element, including fund and partnership disputes, shareholder disputes, claims against fiduciaries, and claims arising out of insolvency and civil fraud.

She is the Vice-Chair of the Property Bar Association. In January 2022 the Property Bar Association and the Property Litigation Association submitted evidence to the House of Commons highlighting numerous areas of concern in the drafting of the Commercial Rent (Coronavirus) Bill. The two organisations represent both property owners and occupiers, providing them with valuable insight into the commercial challenges businesses have faced as a consequence of the Coronavirus pandemic, combined with an impartial expert perspective.

Tiffany has appeared before Courts and Tribunals at all levels, including the Supreme Court and the Privy Council. In May 2019 she appeared in Sequent Nominees Ltd v Hautford Limited, a Supreme Court case concerning the principles that apply when landlords are requested to give tenants consent to do particular acts under the terms of their leases.

She is listed as a leading practitioner in her fields of expertise by The Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners,  which comment that she is “just brilliant in Court”, “a tough and tenacious advocate”, “sharper than a scalpel when dissecting witnesses”, “extremely good at handling appeals” and “brilliant at condensing complex points with clients – always calm and reliable”; and they say “her style is effective as she is ruthless, yet never over the top, when exposing the limitations of her opponent’s case”.
