Our FutureGen Committee was pleased to host an inspiring breakfast discussion with Nick Montgomery, Global Head of Real Estate at Schroders Capital, in conversation with Carine Packer, member of the FutureGen Committee and colleague at Schroders Capital.

During the event, Nick shared thoughtful insights into his professional journey, highlighting the pivotal decisions and experiences that have influenced his career trajectory. He described how an early passion for architecture led him to qualify as a Chartered Surveyor, and, ultimately, to his current role as Global Head of Real Estate. Nick identified his move to London in 1999 as a defining moment, providing early exposure to a broad range of leasing, transactions, and client-focused work. He also recalled navigating key market events, such as the Global Financial Crisis, which underscored the importance of concentrating on what can be controlled, collaborating with trusted colleagues, and remaining adaptable during periods of uncertainty.

Nick also gave valuable insights into Schroders Capitals’ evolving approach to real estate, emphasising a stronger focus on thematic and specialist strategies, along with greater alignment with the broader Schroders Capital platform. He noted the shifting investor landscape and increasing prominence of defined contribution (DC) pension capital, the role of technology and sustainability, and the growing need for operational expertise across sectors including hotels, logistics, and self-storage.

A special thank you to Nick, Carine and all at Schroders Capital for allowing us to host the breakfast.
